What's new for the 2008 Testing Year?

Toefl®

Fees for Tests and Services

  • Test fees for TOEFL® iBT increases from US $140 to $160
  • Rescheduling fee increased from US $40 to $50

Changes in Policy or Procedures:

  • Test Retake Policy - TOEFL iBT can be taken only once in any seven-day period.
  • For TOEFL iBT, all outstanding balances incurred from previous ETS tests or services must be paid in full in order to register for any future ETS test or service. For TOEFL PBT, scores will not be reported until all outstanding balances are paid.
  • Debit cards can now be used for payment.
  • If paying by check, it must have the following features:
    • Check must have a pre-printed check#
    • Check must include Candidate or Payee name and address
    • Check date cannot be over 90 days old
    • Checks missing the pre-printed name and address and checks with typewritten names are not acceptable

Please note - "check" refers to personal checks, not bank drafts. This will be made clearer on the website, but the bulletin is, unfortunately, already printed.

 New Text to Clarify:

  • Everyone will receive additional questions in either the Reading or the Listening section of the TOEFL iBT test that do not count towards their score and test takers have up to four hours to complete the test.
  • TOEFL Practice Online (TPO) does not contain the additional questions in the Reading and Listening sections. Therefore, TPO is shorter than the TOEFL iBT Test.
  • If your ID document contains two surnames, enter the names exactly as presented on your ID document. If you register via the telephone, please ensure that the representative makes your registration in the complete name that appears on your ID document.
  • Highlighted text reminding test takers to print their registration confirmation when they complete their registration. Includes instructions on how to do this.

Changes in Policy or Procedures:

GRE® Subject Test Dates:

2006-07: Test was offered in November, December and April
2007-08: Test is offered October 6, 2007, November 13, 2007, and April 12, 2008 (December test date removed, October test date offered)

Refunds:

2006-07: Cancel/reschedule 3 days prior to the test date and get a $60 refund
2007-08: Cancel/reschedule 10 days prior to the test date and get a 50% refund

Late Registration:

2006-07: No late registration.
2007-08: Late registration for PBT, on-line registration only (no late registration for mailed-in registration). Late registration closes one week after regular registration deadline. Cost is $25.

Score Reinstatement:

2006-07: Not available
2007-08: Can reinstate scores up to 60 days after test date. Cost is $30. For Split-Test administrations, only test takers who complete both the Analytical Writing and paper-based Verbal and Quantitative sessions may reinstate scores. This option is not available for test takers who cancel the Analytical Writing session.
